Field poppy (Papaver rhoeas)
Field poppy is an annual plant with a poorly branched out and furry stalk, its leaves are relatively large and of bright red colour. It has two sepals and four petals. If we collect poppy, petals shall very quickly fall off. Stamen are numerous and black, stigma is even and spread like sunbeams. The fruits are many-seeded heads, which open with small holes, through which tiny seeds fall off. Relatives of field poppy – other species of this genus – are used for the production of opium or poppy grains for various pastry.

Corncockle (Agrostemma githago)
Corncockle is an annual plant with the height up to one meter, it has silky-furry leaves and large purple-red blossoms with five sepals and five petals, the characteristic of which is that they stick out between the sepals. It belongs to the carnation family, while its origin is probably in countries, from which corn itself comes from; together with corn it spread in the following centuries throughout Europe and all over the world. Its seeds are poisonous, while in size comparable to tiny corn grains.

Corn buttercup (Ranunculus arvensis)
Its blossoms are yellow, as it should be for buttercups; its shade is bright lemon-yellow, its five blossom leaves are glowing, while in the blossom there are numerous stamen and from three to eight associated non-developed fertile leaves, which ripen into fruits (nuts). Fruits have a very noticeable characteristic, which separates the corn buttercup from other buttercups: the surface of the nuts is covered with large sharp thorns! Corn buttercup is an annual plant with threesome leaves. In Slovenia, there are more than 30 varieties of buttercups. Its most frequent location is in the regions of Istria and Karst, while it can still be found in Prekmurje and in some regions of Štajerska and Dolenjska...Like all buttercups, corn buttercup is a poisonous species.

Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus)
Cornflower is an annual species of knapweed and belongs to asterales. The cornflower can be easily recognizable by its typical blue colour of blossoms in the flower, as well as its narrow and slightly furry (silver colour) leaves tines. The covering leaves, which are surrounding the flower, have dry-skin appendages. The blue contrast among the golden-yellow cobs stirred up esthetic emotions, but it presented a plague for the farmers. Fruits of the cornflower are highly endurable in the ground and can germinate after numerous years. In some regions of Europe, where cornflower has already disappeared from cereal fields, nature protectionists are sowing special belts of vegetation between the fields, since they would like to preserve this plant. Gardeners have already created numerous varieties for decorational purposes; therefore, this beautiful cereal weed won't forever disappear from the human memory.
