International Year of Disabled - 1981
Hi ! In today's Post a beautiful stamp depicting a Rainbow, issued in 1981 by Great Britain to commemorate International Year of Disabled. I am so thankful to Mr. Kasinath who sent me the scan of this beautiful stamp on Rainbow as he knows that Rainbow is my favourite theme these days and also sent me Rainbow Stamps from Thailand. New Special Cover - Epsom Derby Horse Race
Epsom Derby is considered one of the most prestigious flat thoroughbred horse races in the world. The race takes place each year on the first weekend in June at Epsom Downs Racecourse, Epsom, Surrey, England. The two day festival of horse racing dates back to 1780. To win the Epsom Derby is a tremendous achievement. It is like winning Wimbledon. Maharaja Vijaysinhji of Rajpipla is the only Indian owner ever to win coveted Epsom Derby race since it began in 1780, his horse Windsor Lad finishing first on 6th June 1934. There was huge media coverage of Maharaja Vijaysinhji's great triumph, and literally hundreds of articles were written about him. The event was captured on film for posterity and written about in several books.To commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Epsom Derby Triumph of Maharaja Vijaysinhji of Rajpipla, a special cover was released on 6th June 2009 at Rajpipla . This year the Epsom Derby festival was held on 5th and 6th June 2009 at Epsom Downs Racecourse, Epsom, England.

The cover was released by Shri A.K.A. Joshi, Post Master General of Vadodara Region in the presence of members of Royal family, officers of the postal department and distinguished philatelist Mr. Prashant Pandya and other guests.The special cover features the photo of Maharaja Vijaysingh and his horse Windsor Lad and another photo depicts Epsom Derby triumph of Maharaja Vijaysinhji of Rajpipla. There was also a function on 7th June where the Special Cover was presented to Maharaja Raghubir Singhji of Rajpipla. On the occasion Mr. Prashant Pandya was also honoured by Royal Family and he was presented a painting of Maharaja Vijay Singh Ji with his Windsor Lad.
