So I am really very happy to receive this cover from Andrzej. The other stamp was issued on 28 May 2009 to commemorate the centenary of Grażyna Bacewicz's birthday . Grażyna Bacewicz was one of the most distinguished music personalities of the twentieth century . The FDC envelope presents motives of staves, notes and violins. I love all stamps related with music. Great Personalities from the world of Music

The centenary of Grażyna Bacewicz's brithday
This year witnesses the centenary of birthday and the fortieth anniversary of death of one of the most distinguished music personalities of the twentieth century - Grażyna Bacewicz. She was born on 5 February 1909 in Łódź. She was born into a Polish-Lithuanian family with music traditions. The artist died on 17 January 1969 in Warsaw. First violin and piano lessons were given to Grażyna by her father, Wincenty Bacewicz, who taught also other children music, placing special emphasis upon their capability of playing in a team. Since 1919 Grażyna Bacewicz was a student of the Helena Kijeńska-Dobkiewicz Conservatory in her home town. In addition to the violin and piano lessons, she also had lessons of theory of music. At the same time, Grażyna attended a grammar school (gimnazjum humanistyczne). After the Bacewicz's moving out to Warsaw in 1924, she became a student of the Warsaw National Conservatory of Music, where she learned under the supervision of Kazimierz Sikorski - composition, Józef Jarzębski - violin and Józef Turczyński - piano.

True Diamond
Bacewicz's successful compositions and performances during the studies presented her with first awards. As a violinist, in 1935, she received her first prize in the I Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition. Yet, before the awards, she did her music composition studies in Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris during 1932-33 (owing to Ignacy Paderewski's scholarship) where she was supervised by a celebrated Nadia Boulanger. In the 50's Bacewicz abandoned stage activities and focused upon composing. Her works were characterized by clarity, easily recognizable style, craft mastership or exceptional sense of the sound of orchestra. Many of her compositions refer to the Polish folklore which can be noticed in, among others, "III koncert skrzypcowy" (eng.: "Third Violin Concerto") (1948) and renowned "Oberek" (1949). "Muzyka na smyczki, trąbkę i perkusję" (eng.: "Music for Strings, Trumpets, and Percussion") (1957) is regarded to be the most remarkable work. As a violinist, Grażyna Bacewicz gave concerts in Poland and abroad. Apart from artistic and composing activities, she took up teaching. The composer's teaching was as excellent as her music compositions. Bacewicz was a laureate of numerous national and international awards and distinctions; she was also a member of jury in noted performing and composing competitions, and a many year's Vice President of the Polish Composers' Union.Beside the music compositions Grażyna Bacewicz wrote novels and short stories (remained in the form of manuscripts). Yet, the only collection of her short stories that got published was "Znak szczególny" (eng.: "Birthmark") (1970).
