Special Cover on Platinum Jubilee of Epsom Derby Triumph of Maharaja Vijaysinhji of Rajpipla
Epsom Derby is considered one of the most prestigious flat thoroughbred horse races in the world. The race takes place each year on the first weekend in June at Epsom Downs Racecourse, Epsom, Surrey, England. The two day festival of horse racing dates back to 1780. To win the Epsom Derby is a tremendous achievement. It is like winning Wimbledon. Maharaja Vijaysinhji of Rajpipla is the only Indian owner ever to win coveted Epsom Derby race since it began in 1780, his horse Windsor Lad finishing first on 6th June 1934. There was huge media coverage of Maharaja Vijaysinhji's great triumph, and literally hundreds of articles were written about him.
The event was captured on film for posterity and written about in several books.To commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of Epsom Derby Triumph of Maharaja Vijaysinhji of Rajpipla, a special cover will be released on 6th June 2009 at Rajpipla. The cover will be released by erstwhile Royal Family of Rajpipla. This year the Epsom Derby festival will be held on 5th and 6th June 2009 at Epsom Downs Racecourse, Epsom, England.

Having lived in Burma (now Myanmar), Calcutta & Bombay (now Kolkata & Mumbai) for about fifteen years at each places and travelled globally, I enjoy stamps and coins collecting plus autographs collector. My specific interests are Indian Princely States, Religion, Diversity, Multi – Intrer faith, Greetings stamps besides collecting post- independent Indian stamps and FDCs. Occasionally; I contribute articles in Gujarati and English magazines. I am a retired accounting person but active in my own Jain and multi – inter faiths, Gujarati language and literature. I take keen interest in Canadian philatelic issues. I am trying for issue of DIWALI stamps by Canada and USA and would appreciate if anyone can help me in this direction.
